Coldplay Music of the Spheres World Tour FAQs
Led by frontman Chris Martin, Coldplay has remained defining force in pop-rock since the late ‘90s. Joined by guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion, the British band has delivered numerous chart-topping hits, including 2001’s “Yellow,” 2008’s “Viva La Vida,” and 2017’s “Something Just Like This.” Their 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show with Beyoncé and Bruno Mars remains a high point in music history.
In 2021, they achieved their second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 by collaborating with BTS on “My Universe,” nearly two decades after reaching the top with “Viva La Vida” in 2008. Known for their anthemic sound and electrifying performances, Coldplay have delighted fans with both the 2016 A Head Full of Dreams Tour and the 2022 Music of the Spheres World Tour ranking among the top 10 highest-grossing tours of all time.

4th September – Wembley Stadium
At the time of writing, the last Coldplay album to be released was Music of the Spheres, which came out on the 15th October 2021. Featuring guest appearances from the likes of Selena Gomes and BTS, it pushed the boundaries of what Coldplay had become known for, while still managing to stick to their musical roots. After the release, the band embarked on the Music of the Spheres World Tour, which will run until the end of 2024.
But we know what you’re thinking – that was a long time ago now, when will the next Coldplay album be released? Well, some good news for you – Moon Music was released on the 4th October 2024.
Well, let’s start at the beginning, or close to it. Yellow is the song that shot Coldplay into the public consciousness – that is where they established themselves in the charts in the summer of 2000. By that point they were already playing at Glastonbury, so it’s not as if they came out of nowhere, but it was Yellow that changed everything for the band.
Then there’s Fix You, a classic ballad with emotional lyrics juxtaposed with an uplifting melody, Viva La Vida, a popular classic with a grand orchestral sound inspired by playing in Latin America, Clocks with that unique piano riff, The Scientist, showing off the bands poignancy, and moving to more recent hit, Adventure of a Lifetime, which shows off the band’s ability to create an infectious groove.
That’s just scratching the surface though – there are nearly 30 years of hits to work with!
Yes – in fact, at the last count they’ve won 417 awards, from 895 nominations. Which is just a mind-boggling amount. Let’s break it down though:
They’ve won seven Grammys, including Best Alternative Music Album and Record of the Year for “Viva La Vida.”. They’ve won nine Brit Awards, including Best British Group and Best British Album multiple times. They’ve been awarded Tour of the Year at the American Music Awards, and eight Billboard Awards.
Drummer Will Champion also has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Southampton in his hometown. And the band currently hold six World Records, including First Act to Sell Over a Million Digital Albums in the US and Highest Annual Earnings for a Group (from 2018). And they have headlined Glastonbury five times, which is more than any other band in history.

Coldplay formed in 1996 while the members were students at University College London. The band originally started as a group called Pectoralz, which included Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion. They later changed their name to Starfish, and then Coldplay, inspired by a name suggested by a friend. Champion claims that he only became their drummer because his housemate had a drum kit but hadn’t turned up when the others went to the house to meet him. So he gave it a go…
In those days they played small gigs around London, especially Camden where promoters had a lot of sway. That’s when Chris Martin’s lifelong friend Phil Harvey got more involved – eventually becoming the band’s manager. He distributed EPs to record labels and booked gigs outside of London. Eventually, they caught the attention of Radio One DJ Steve Lamacq, who invited them to become the first unsigned act to guest on his Evening Session show in January 1999. Within a month, they had signed a record deal.
More EPs followed as the band continued to tour. They played the New Bands Tent at Glastonbury in June 1999, and recorded an EP called The Blue Room that year, which sold around 5,000 copies. During the recording, Martin and Champion fell out. Their subsequent reconciliation laid the foundations that has stood them in good stead in their rise to fame – a complete democracy with a strict set of rules around hard drugs.
Between September 1999 and April 2000, they recorded their first album, Parachutes. The first single Shiver made it into the UK Top 40, but that was followed by the release of Yellow in June 2000 – that’s what changed everything.

Well, I guess the first thing you can expect is Coldplay music – there will be a lot of that! But, honestly, even if you’re not a huge fan of Coldplay music, there is still a lot for you to enjoy at a concert.
They’re brilliant performers, especially Chris Martin. If you happened to catch any of their Glastonbury appearances, you’ll know that he holds the crowd in the palms of his hands. He’s an entertainer, without being in-your-face. He gets the crowd involved, and gets everyone up for it!
They also tend to use impressive lighting displays, backdrops, pyrotechnics – loads for your eyes as well as your ears! They also have used wristbands that light in the audience, and other innovative interactive elements like that.
Environmental sustainability is a huge factor in their performances, and they take eco-friendly measures in everything they plan. This enhances, rather than inhibits their creativity.
So if you get a chance to watch Coldplay live on an upcoming tour – take it.
Is it worth seeing Coldplay live?

It couldn’t happen without two things – universally loved music, and impressive stage shows.
