FAQs

We want you to be fully prepared for the Girls Aloud Tour, so here are some frequently asked questions to put you in the picture. There should be everything you need to know ahead of the tour, but if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

This is where we hit you with some bad news. While the band are getting back together for the Girls Aloud Show tour, there are no plans for them to record any new music together as things stand. The tour is designed to be a celebration of Girls Aloud’s rich back catalogue of hits, as well as a celebration of Sarah Harding.

There really isn’t enough space here to go through all of the band’s historic pop hits! Here’s is just a flavour:

Their explosive debut single Sound of the Underground in 2002 set the tone for their career – topping the UK charts and setting the tone for their bold, genre-bending sound. In 2004 they released the ridiculously catchy Love Machine, before following it up with an emotional cover of the I’ll Stand By You, originally released by The Pretenders. In fact, they’ve successfully covered quite a few songs over the years, like Jump (For My Love) in 2003.

Then there’s the summer banger Something Kinda Ooooh from 2006, and the fierce Call the Shots in 2007. Looking at this selection, the way they were able to blend together so many different genres of music was so impressive – it’s no wonder they are still adored by fans 20+ years later.

Of course they have! But, probably not as many as they have deserved. They have won just one Brit award (Best Single “The Promise” in 2009), they also have won the Glamour Award for Band (2005), UK Festival Award for Best Pop Act (2008) and Capital FM awards for Best Album and Best Selling Single.

Perhaps the most telling accolade is when they broke the Guinness World Record for 20 consecutive UK Top 10 singles by a Female Group. It really highlights their longevity and consistency.

The early 2000s were really a golden age for those talent-based TV shows – it felt like the whole country was watching them every Saturday night. Girls Aloud sprang from one of these – Popstars: The Rivals. This was a follow up to Popstars, and the premise was that two groups would be formed – a boy band and a girl band, and they would compete with each other for Christmas number one. (One True Voice was the boyband they were competing with – that’s bound to come up in a pub quiz at some point!)
Needless to say, Girls Aloud won, and spent four weeks at the top of the charts with Sound of the Underground. From there, they just grew and grew in popularity.

Part of the appeal of Girls Aloud’s music is that they don’t have one overarching meaning – the beauty lies in its diversity and adaptability to individual interpretations. They do all contain similar themes though, about female empowerment, love, vulnerability, self-confidence or emotional depth. Their genius though, is combining all of this with fun, upbeat party songs.

It’s been over a decade since Girls Aloud last toured, and a lot has changed since then. The band members have been keen to emphasise that these hugely anticipated shows are to be a celebration of Sarah Harding, so while I’m sure they will be emotionally charged events, fans can still expect a fun-packed night, with plenty of razzle-dazzle alongside cast iron classics.

Get prepared for The Girls Aloud Show

It’s been quite a ride since Girls Aloud were formed on the TV Show Popstars: The Rivals way back in 2002. Made up of Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Cheryl Tweedy and Kimberly Walsh they were the most successful girl group of the 2000s, released seven studio albums and amassed a huge army of incredible fans all over the world. Then almost out of nowhere, the band split in 2009, and other than briefly coming back together for the tenth anniversary in 2012, that was it.

Then in 2020, Sarah fell ill and was diagnosed with breast cancer – she died the following year. The band have since come back together to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research, and in 2023 they announced a reunion tour – The Girls Aloud Show – to begin in May 2024.

As Cheryl put it: “It’s the right time to celebrate Sarah, it’s the right time to celebrate the band and the right time to celebrate the fact we can still do this 21 years later.”

When tickets for The Girls Aloud Show first went on general sale, some tour dates sold out in minutes. Fourteen extra dates were then added to try and cope with demand – but this gives you some idea as to how special these shows are going to be. They are not to be missed.
